Curacao Day 1

Back to the airport today. This time, I’m off to Curaçao to explore the beautiful Sandals Royal Curaçao!

Like most Caribbean routes from Orlando, I flew from Orlando to Miami and then from Miami to Curaçao. I didn’t know anyone on my first flight, but once I landed in Miami, I started running into lots of familiar faces, fellow travel agents heading to the same event.

While waiting for our next flight, I grabbed some Chinese food (the portion size was massive, I swear I ate for 15 minutes and barely made a dent). I also savored my last Diet Coke of the week, knowing I wouldn’t find one again until I returned to the U.S. I’ve learned to make those final sips count.

The flight to Curaçao was uneventful, and the arrival process was smooth. We got a good laugh when my suitcase came off the belt looking totally squished. Apparently, I had left the expansion zipper halfway open. Classic me. Our transfer to the resort was quick, and we were greeted with cold bottled water, which I appreciated more than I can explain. I had to ask someone else to open mine, but luckily I wasn’t the only one struggling with the cap. There was an entire line of people needing help, which made me feel a little less defeated by a bottle of water.

Once we arrived at Sandals Royal Curaçao, we were directed to check in with employees holding clipboards. My co-agent Tracie and I were sent to the Club Sandals Lounge to complete our check-in. We were welcomed with bright blue cocktails that, coincidentally, matched my nails.

After being escorted to our rooms, I took a moment to relax and soak in the gorgeous view from my balcony. It was absolutely stunning.

Later that evening, we attended the resort’s opening cocktail party out on the lawn, followed by dinner at Aolos, an open-air Greek restaurant.

We had a bit of a wait for a table since our group was large and Sandals restaurants are typically designed for smaller parties. But we didn’t mind. Hanging out at the bar gave us time to unwind and chat.

For my appetizer, I ordered the Mediterranean Wedge, but I wasn’t a fan of the dressing. It reminded me of spaghetti sauce. Fun fact: I noticed after our trip that the menu has since changed, and that red sauce has been removed. For my entrée, I had the Slow Braised Prime Beef, the restaurant’s signature dish. I was so grateful they were able to make it without mushrooms for me. Mushrooms are one of those foods I keep trying to love, but I just can’t get there. For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Flourless Tart. I’m a big fan of flourless chocolate cakes, and I’ll order one anytime I see it on the menu.

After dinner, I headed back to my room to relax and recharge after the long travel day. I wanted to be rested and ready for the full day of exploring ahead.
