Jamaica - Day 1

"I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day…"– “My Girl” (The Temptations)

This year’s Key to the World Travel Spring Fling took us to beautiful Jamaica, specifically Sandals Ochi. I was so excited to attend another event just months after our annual KeyCon. There’s something really special about travel friends, they just get it. And since we’re spread across the country, it always feels like a mini reunion when we get together.

I flew nonstop from Orlando to Montego Bay on Southwest, and I knew a few agents with layovers would be joining me. But I had no idea how many. We filled an entire row on the plane, plus some. It felt like the party started before we even touched down.

This trip, I decided to try out Club MoBay so I could report back to my clients if it’s worth it. Short answer: yes. Think of it like a Disney Lightning Lane for the airport. As soon as we deplaned, an employee was waiting for us with a sign and our names. From there, we breezed through passport checks, luggage pickup, and customs with VIP speed. Before we knew it, we were relaxing in the Sandals Lounge waiting for our shuttle. I’ll absolutely be using Club MoBay for every future Montego Bay arrival.

The drive to Ocho Rios took just under two hours due to traffic, but we had a bathroom stop and even the chance to pick up some local fruit along the way.

Check-in at the resort was smooth and efficient. We went straight into a conference room to take care of both resort and event registration in one go. From there, a golf cart whisked us away to our rooms.

We stayed in One Bedroom Poolside Butler Villa Suites, which were so fun. Each villa has four rooms that share a private pool, and you can even book all four together if you’re traveling with friends. Sandals Ochi is the largest of all the Sandals properties, split into two sections: Hillside and Riviera Seaside. We were on the Hillside.

My luggage was delivered, I did a quick outfit change, and made it just in time for the opening cocktail party. It was originally set for the beach, but a little rain moved us inside. Still, the energy was amazing and the vibe was electric.

Dinner followed right after. I had pre-selected Kimonos, the hibachi restaurant, during check-in. Our group filled two tables, and I ended up sitting next to a couple who told us we “brought great energy to the resort.” I think it was a compliment, so I’m running with it.

After dinner, I called it an early night. Travel days are no joke, and I wanted to be refreshed for our training sessions the next morning.

Want to experience Sandals or anywhere else in the world for yourself? I’d love to help you plan something unforgettable.
